Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just turn up?

No, sessions are by appointment only. Preferably by telephone,
but if you email us we will ring you back as soon as possible.

How long is each session?

This depends on the type of therapy.
Individual counselling, psychotherapy, life and performance coaching, emotional freedom technique ( EFT), Individual Mindfulness stress reduction is usually for one hour or if client's needs require differently we can adjust up to 4 hours.

Couple counselling can be from one to one and a half hours
Clinical supervision is for 60 or 90 minutes
Group work is usually between one and a half to two hours.

What happens at the assessment session?

At the assessment session, we look at what you are wanting to achieve from the counselling or therapy. We then look at the different options available, taking into consideration your financial and time commitments, we balance this with your need to work on your own personal development. Between us we focus on your initial needs, looking at the realistic options that are available to you.

How long is my commitment?

Initially no longer than assessment session.
If we decide at the initial session that we will continue working together, we usually plan a number of sessions. However, from experience I have found that it is often useful for the client to agree to an initial series of six sessions. This enables the development of the therapeutic plan. Although we can adjust depending on your personal needs. What happens next?

During these sessions we review how the therapy is going for you. How you feel about the support you are getting from me as  Your therapist.
Maybe we need to change the focus of the work.

At session six you may feel that you have done enough work for now, with the option of coming back later.

What happens if I want to continue the work with you after the six sessions?

You may want to continue the sessions in a more open ended way. This will enable us to deepen the quality of the therapy by working either medium or longer term. You will have your individual space each week. I will ask you to commit to the sessions you book and one weeks notice is required for taking holidays.

How many sessions do I need and how often?

Individuals circumstances vary so much. I have experience of working in a variety of ways, short, medium or longer term. I try to tailor the work to suit your therapeutic requirements. I do consider six to fifteen sessions as short term work. This time limited approach can be suitable for working on a specific presenting problem or if you are being funded by your organisation. Generally we see clients weekly and occasionally fortnightly.

How much do the sessions cost?

This depends on the type of therapy and the length of the sessions. I offer a FREE 15 minute telephone chat to find out what you maybe needing from the thearpy.
After that the prices are £45 for a 60 minute session or pro rata.
I have several concessions available for students or people on very low incomes.

Where can we attend the sessions and do you do home visits?

Unfortunately time doesn't allow us to do home visits. However, it may be possible for groupwork, such as professional supervision, critical incident debriefing or mindfulness stress management to take place between half a day to several days within your workplace.
