Qualifications, Training and Experience
SELECTING A THERAPIST - This can be a daunting task. There are many therapists advertising on the internet. A good website doesn't always mean that the therapist is good. The selection you make is of great importance to you. We are dealing with this one wild and wonderful life of yours. You could ask yourself 'How do I make a choice'. From my own personal experience when looking for a therapist, I have telephoned one or two people who maybe have been recommended to me or whose qualifications and style of working seem to be acceptable to me.
It is important for you to feel comfortable with your chosen therapist and also to feel they have the relevant skills to support you through your therapeutic process.
To assist you in making a decision whether you would like to see me for an initial consultation I am offering a 15 minutes free telephone consultation. This will enable you to experience telephone support, also to decide whether you want to take the therapeutic relationship further.
QUALIFICATIONS, TRAININGS, EXPERIENCE - I am senior registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also registered with the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors. I abide by the Code of Ethics and Practice of these professional organisations.
I have an Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy Diploma, together with a Diploma from Bristol University in Counselling in Primary Care, and a Diploma from the National Centre for Eating Disorders. I am a trained couple counsellor and have trained in individual and group supervision which is recognised by Bristol University and have a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision from the The University College of Wales.
In addition I have trained for three years in advanced Gestalt Psychotherapy.
I have Diplomas in Life and Performance Coaching and am an Advanced Practitioner & Licensed Trainer of EmotionaL Freedom Technique with the AAMET, one of the largest associations in the World, supporting Meridian Therapies and I abide by this professional organisations code of ethics and practice.
MINDFUNESS MEDITATION - I have had a solid meditation practice for over 25 years and have experience many forms of meditation, healing and have attended a variety of retreats and workshops in both the UK and abroad.
I have trained with Bangor University to integrate Mindfulness Meditation into my counselling and psychotherapy practice and have also attended their Teacher's Training Retreat and other Mindfulness Meditation and CBT trainings.
Presently I am offering a groundbreaking programme to alleviate stress. In weeks you can learn mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), a clinically proven programme for alleviating stress, anxiety, panic, depression, chronic pain and a wide variety of other medical conditions.(see groups page)
These programmes are recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Execellence (NICE). Research has proven that Mindfulness in conjunction with CBT is an excellent support for people who have suffered from recurring bouts of depression.
For more details of Mindfulness Meditation for Stress Reduction,
I recommend reading the Full Catasphrophe of Living, by Jon Kabat-Zinn. who has been a wonderful pioneer bringing Mindfulness Meditation into the Medical Professions since 1979.
PERSONAL APPROACH - From 1987, I have worked in a variety of medical, organisational and educational settings, working with individuals, couples, groups and companies, seeing people from many different backgrounds and walks of life. I consider myself to work in a unique and integrative style, which aims gently but powerfully to unite mind, body and spirit to bring about self healing.
I have experienced a wide range of personal therapies, and I have regular clinical supervision. I am constantly extending and developing my skills, as well as attending workshops. My work with you will be tailored to meet your own individual needs. Every therapeutic relationship is unique and this makes my work so interesting and rewarding.
Through integrative counselling, Gestalt psychotherapy, Jungian dreamwork, energy psychology and art, we can explore your earlier life issues and their effects on your present life relationships and situations.
I also specialise in working with people who are going through loss and change such as major life transitions, leaving home, new relationships, parenting, mid-life changes, the process of individuation, retirement issues, divorce and separation.
