Questions: Practicalities, Fees and Therapies
How many sessions do I need and how often?People's circumstances vary so much. I have a wide experience of working in a variety of ways - short, medium or longer. I can design a bespoke package to suit your individual therapeutic requirements. Every person is an individual. I aim to be relatively flexible to cater for your needs.
What are the differences between counselling & psychotherapy?Counselling - may be described as helping you to help yourself. Often it involves focusing on a specific problem or problems. Discussing with someone outside the situation maybe sufficient to help you develop a different perspective and find a solution. Counselling tends to be time limited, varying from say six weeks to six months. Generally we meet weekly and occasionally fortnightly. After six sessions of counselling we can assess if we feel you need further sessions. We can then start to work in an open-ended way, if you require medium to longer term work. Medium to longer term counselling can develop into psychotherapy.
Psychotherapy - may be described as helping you to know and understand yourself better. It involves finding out what lies below the surface of your everyday awareness, to help you with deeper mental or emotional issues or problems that are long standing and not easy to define. By exploring your life and relationships ( past & present ) psychotherapy can help you to become more aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions. It can help you understand why you keep feeling a certain way. Why you keep going around in a circular pattern that you cannot seem to break. For example, "Why do l keep going into the same type of disastrous relationships?". Psychotherapy is generally once or twice weekly.
